Tax Filing Season, Deadlines, & More

The IRS announced that the tax filing season will begin on January 24th, 2022. This is a little over a week earlier than last year and more in line with prior tax seasons before the pandemic.

The IRS also announced that the tax filing deadline for individuals will be April 18th, 2022 with extensions being due on October 17th, 2022. Please remember that extensions are extending only the filing deadline and not the deadline to pay tax owed.

If you received advance child tax credits you should be receiving or have already received a letter with the payments that you received. Please keep this with all other tax documents and provide to your tax preparer.

The IRS is well behind in opening its mail. With it taking up to 15 months to respond to replies from notices that they sent out. While they have processed all returns requesting a refund with no issues, they have roughly 6 million unprocessed returns going into the tax season.

Please try to eFile your return to ensure prompt filing of your tax return and any refund that may be owed to you. The quickest way to receive your refund is to have the amount direct deposited into your bank account.
